This skillet dessert is everything you want in a fall apple treat. It’s packed with warm spices, a buttery oatmeal streusel, and just enough bourbon to take it to the next level. Ingredients Needed for the Bourbon Apple Crisp

  • Apple Filling – For the filling, make sure you have enough apples—you’ll need about eight. You’ll mix them with butter, bourbon, dark brown sugar, cinnamon, and maple syrup. Optional add-ins include a pinch or two of lemon zest or even some vanilla extract.
  • Crisp Oat Crumble Topping – The toasty oatmeal topping calls for old-fashioned oats, pecans, coconut sugar, butter, and kosher salt for that great texture and crunch.

This homemade apple crisp is the perfect way to end any meal, whether you’re out in the wild or enjoying a cozy night at home. It’s a sweet treat that brings people together, so grab your prepared skillet and lets make it happen!

How to Make the No-Bake Bourbon Apple Crisp

Let’s get started with the most epic apple crisp by prepping the filling ingredients. Grab a large bowl and toss your sliced apples (about 1-inch pieces) with bourbon, sugar, cinnamon, and syrup.

Choose a Mixture of Apples

For a flavor blasted apple crisp, try a mix of tart and sweet apples like Granny Smith and Honeycrisp, which give the apple filling the perfect sweet-tart balance.

Heat a prepared skillet (a 10-inch cast iron works best) over medium heat and melt a little butter until it’s golden brown. This step adds depth to the flavor, making this a true brown butter bourbon apple crisp. Add the apple mixture and let it cook until the apples are soft, caramelized, and smelling like heaven.

While the apples cook, make the topping. In a small bowl, mix the oats, pecans, and sugar, then work in the cold butter with a pastry cutter or your hands until the mixture resembles chunky crumbs.

Once the apples are tender and the sauce has thickened, sprinkle the topping evenly over the top of the apples. Cover loosely with a piece of foil and let it rest for a few minutes to soak up all the flavors.

What to Serve with No-Bake Apple Crisp

This fruit crisp is a perfect dessert all on its own, but pairing it with a dollop of vanilla bean ice cream or a drizzle of bourbon sauce takes it to the next level. If you’re out camping without an RV and don’t have vanilla ice cream handy, whipped cream or even a splash of heavy cream will do the trick. The contrast of cool and creamy against the warm apples is pure magic.

FAQs for the Bourbon Apple Crisp

What’s the best apple for this crisp recipe?

As far as what kind of apples, there are so many options for this no-bake bourbon apple crisp. Granny Smith apples, Honeycrisp apples, or Pink Lady all work. However, some people swear by the taste of Fuji apples. Honestly, pick your favorite apple! It’ll be really hard to go wrong.

What’s the best way to peel and core an apple while camping?

The easiest way to peel and core apples while camping is to use a portable peeler and corer tool. These compact gadgets are lightweight and make quick work of prepping the apples. If you don’t have one, a simple paring knife works too—just take your time (since the closest ER is probably about 4 hours away!). To keep the slices fresh, toss them in a large bowl with a splash of lemon juice while you prep the rest.

Can I make this easy skillet dessert recipe at home?

Absolutely! While this apple crisp recipe is perfect for campfire cooking, it’s just as easy to make at home. Use a prepared skillet or any oven-safe pan over medium heat on your stovetop. Follow the same steps, and you’ll have a delicious dessert that brings all the cozy, campfire vibes to your kitchen. It’s the perfect dessert for a weeknight treat or even a Thanksgiving apple dessert.
